Iguacu Falls

The Iguacu Falls on the Iguacu River are the longest waterfalls in the world at 2.7kms long and 270 cascades. They fall on the border of Argentina and Brasil and we had the opportunity to visit both sides. I opted for a trip to the Brasilian side, where we viewed the falls from an extensive walkway that takes you right next to and over parts of the waterfall. Walking through the forest, you first get a glimpse of the waterfalls and it is amazing, then the full impact of the falls is only felt as you walk along the walkway and see the many cascades, powerful gushing water, the velocity is huge, the rainbows are numerous, the water sprays finely and a cloudy mist rises over the falls like smoke.....similar to Victoria Falls in Zim/Zam. There are options to take boat rides or abseil but we certainly felt the walk right up to the Falls, and along the section above the falls where the spray completely soaks were close enough encounters. A lazy lunch along the river above the falls in the sunshine took up most of the afternoon, a rare luxury on a cycling tour, and the most fantastic buffet (this is what they do well in Brasil) was enjoyed by all.

We had two rest day in Foz da Iguacu with one day spent at the Falls, and the second cleaning/maintaining my bike, lazing by the pool, reading in hammock and enjoying chatting and emailing friends back home! And the sun was shining! Bliss!!!
